Infrared plastic welding
Complementary to the hot plate method, the assembly of plastics can also be done without contact using infrared welding technology.
This makes it possible to weld large parts, of complex geometry, or made of flexible materials.
Infrared welding is contactless and therefore creates no pollution. This solution also avoids any change in the colour of the parts and avoids contamination of the heating tool. Finally, it pushes the limits of welding with a hot plate thanks to fusion by focused radiation.
Infrared welding radiation is emitted by a heating source. Its temperature and geometry are determining factors for a localised weld. SONIMAT has developed its expertise in source geometry using infrared filament technology. This filament is integrated into a compliant support developed in-house for each project.
The infrared filament technology makes it possible to respond to simple to complex shapes:
The direct and localised heating of our infrared support means that only the welding area is heated, so the energy is concentrated only where it is needed, reducing heat loss. Futhermore, the heating time is quick because radiation penetrates directly the material , reducing time taken to reach welding point temperature.
Our range of high-tech HPW infrared welding machines is designed to be energy-efficient and fast, thanks to its electric travel axes.
The heat is concentrated only on the welding point. Power consumption is lower than a standard system.
Examples of workpieces where infrared technology may be used: Lights, fuel tank, filters, hoses, cylinder head covers, cooling or propulsion system components, glycol-water valves, distributor, battery module…
